Not All Plans are Created Equal
Many standard retirement plans miss key insights, leaving your life savings to chance.
Spending is Not Static
Most plans assume spending is constant throughout retirement, reality (and research) suggests otherwise. When you first retire, spending is high – think trips, hobbies, dining out. But as you age, you slow down and spend less. Eventually, healthcare spending increases while discretionary spending slows down.
Taxes Change
Most plans assume taxes are set in stone, but reality and (research) suggests otherwise. A $1 million 401-k is really split between you and Uncle Sam. And Uncle Sam wants 30%. Strategic tax planning can decrease that 30% burden and keep more money in your pocket.
Economic Conditions Matter
Most plans assume economic conditions are the same regardless of when you retire, reality (and research) suggest otherwise. In 1984, $1 million in savings could support $13,000 monthly spending. But in 1967, this would only be $8,000. While we can’t predict the future, we can assess today’s economic climate quite well.
Real Diversification is Required
Most plans assume bond values rise when stock values decline, but reality and (research) suggest otherwise. Stocks and bonds have become increasingly correlated (they move in the same direction). The plan must consider diversification beyond the traditional mix of stocks and bonds.

Getting Started
1. Schedule a Consultation
Schedule a 30-minute initial consultation. In that meeting, we'll discuss what you’re looking for in a financial advisor, what it’s like to work with Voyage, and answer any questions about our planning and investment approach.
2. Initial Consultation
No preparation is required. We'll get to know each other and understand your priorities. If it seems like a good fit, I’ll recommend a complimentary “What Does Retirement Look Like” meeting to clarify your goals and priorities.
3. What Does Retirement Look Like?
Retirement starts with you in mind. Our first meeting will define what retirement looks like for you and what challenges may lie ahead. The info I gather will serve as the foundation of the plan.
